Blog Post #2 Research Topic and 10 Sources

The topic I've decided to go with is, how social media on public safety affects the public's trust. Not only have I been able to find articles associated with current law enforcement issues but I've been able to find articles using specific social media platforms like Twitter, IG, and Facebook. As a result, I'm able to utilize different social media platforms to uncover different perceptions from different age groups and different ethnicities on public safety. These are my 10 sources I've been able to find:

  1. Executive Order 14074--Advancing Effective, Accountable Policing and Criminal Justice Practices To Enhance Public Trust and Public Safety. (2022). Daily Compilation of Presidential Documents, 1–20.

  1. There are many police officers with TikTok accounts that they use to share their experiences as police officers. Sometimes they tell funny stories, and sometimes they share heartbreaking things they have witnessed. You can also find TikToks that show accidents that were recorded on dash cams.

  2. What is the balance between types of sources: databases, ERIC sources, journal articles, books, manuals, dissertations, and so forth?

Most of my articles were retrieved using the EBSCO database. For that reason, I want to reflect on this question. I want this research to avoid those misconceptions.

  3. Hi Sam,

Looks like you had a good start on your sources, so far. I know you'll be distilling more of your topic interest as you plow through and annotate the sources you've found. At this point, I think it's ok to throw into the mix at least a couple sources from TWDR-specific journals (c/o source list on Canvas) to direct your investigation more towards the lens of TWDR. After the Lit. Review is done, maybe we can set a quick appointment to brainstorm ideas for your Research Proposal and make the study more beneficial and applicable to practitioners/scholars within our field. (As always, feel free to set an appt. with me anytime if you need help -- am here).

    Keep up the good work!

    Best,

    Dr. B
